Welcome to The New Britain Republican

It is my goal that this blog will inform our bloggers of news and events which interest and affect them.

It is also my goal to use this blog as a tool to brainstorm ideas that can help make our community a better place to live.

If you’re looking for a blog to bash or hate others you’re not going to find it here. All bashing and hating blog submissions will be deleted at once and forgotten. That being said, I will post truthful information that can be verified if it is done in a tasteful way and done to inform our fellow readers.

Please feel free to bring out problems and issue our community face, but don’t just stop there, provide us with suggestions on how things could be done better or more efficient.

Let see how creative we can be to solve the issues our community faces.

Also, if you know of a resident in our community who deserves recognition for a job well done, feel free to pass the name along with some details. No good deed is too small to be recognized.

Thank you for every positive contribution you make for our community.

  1. The long running bad blood and animosity among all parties involved in the local government in New Britain is old and tired. If the leadership of New Britain can spend half the time that is wasted trying to tear each other down on constructive planning and decision making for the better of the city, New Britain has a great opportunity to thrive. The Republican party in this city needs to put aside the ways of the past and embrace a positive and modern agenda that appeals to the hard working people in this city and welcomes a new generation of young Republicans into the fold to build for the future. We can do this!

  2. While reading the New Britain Heralds "OUR VIEW" section on Governor Rell's proposed license fee increases, I noticed potential 100% increases. Of interest to me was the hunting and fishing licenses. As an avid hunter and fisherman I would like to remind Governor Rell that hunters already pay excise taxes per the Robertson-Pittman act, which taxes sporting goods such as guns, ammo, bows, and other equipment. On average, I spend approximately 100 to 200 dollars a year on equipment. Some years I spend far more.
I worry that these increases will make it too expensive to purchase licenses. Many sportsman will no longer hunt, unethical hunters will simply not purchase them.
According to the US wildlife service, as a result of purchasing all required licenses and paying federal excise taxes on hunting equipment and ammunition, individual hunters make a large contribution towards ensuring the future of many species of wildlife and habitat. By paying the Federal excise tax on hunting equipment, hunters are contributing hundreds of millions of dollars for conservation programs that benefit many wildlife species, hunted and non- hunted. Each year, nearly $200 million in hunters' federal excise taxes are distributed to State agencies to support wildlife management programs and the purchase of open lands. Proceeds from the Federal Duck Stamp, a required purchase for migratory waterfowl hunters, have purchased nationally more than five million acres of habitat for the refuge system and lands that support waterfowl and many other wildlife species.
Join me in urging Governor Rell and our legislators to review and revise these proposed increases. Hunters and fisherman already pay a steep price for the conservation of land and wildlife that all residents, hunters and non hunters, will enjoy for generations.
